About The Word for World is Forrest

Forrest is a hot-headed science fiction author who wants to fight the power in a cowardly, bloodless way. Reading this substack may infect you with all types of ideas: stupid and wise, silly and poignant, delicious and disgusting. I write two articles a week.

About The Word for World is Forest

The Word for World is Forest is a science fiction novel written by the unparalleled Ursula Le Guin, one of my favorite authors. I first read it in college, and named my radio show after it: The Word for Groove is Forrest. No one got it. Now, I run it back.

“Be part of a community of people who share your interests. Participate in the comments section, or support this work with a subscription.”

Isn’t that an interesting default phrase? Substack tries to lure you in with the promise of belonging to a community. Don’t believe it. The internet is antithetical to community. Posting your comment won’t make you feel connected to anyone. It’s a chance to yell into the void, and hope the echoes resonate. Those are the kind of takedowns my articles bring. I’m not afraid to bite the hand that feeds me, even if it’s my own.

That being said, welcome to the crew.
